Making a joining link (FREE)

Making a joining link (FREE)

This is how I make a Circle Link

I am crazy about the this link.  It is just so versatile and they make gorgeous chains for necklaces and bracelets too.

The best part of this link for me is how strong it is.

•You will need to know how to make a simple eye pin before you do this tutorial

Take a 4cm length of 16g wire and make an eyepin on one end.
You can also use 18g (you will need to use a little less wire respectively)

** this technique is demonstrated differently in class for the sole purpose of comfort and to make multiple sizes in one go.**

Place the tail of the eye pin at the back of the round nose pliers, then  free - ROLL the wire all the way around to form a loop

that is perpendicular to the eye pin as show below this photo.

Holding the small eye pin with the flat nose pliers, bend the loop back with the round nose pliers to break its neck.

(Those of you whom are familiar with making an eye-pin will understand the neck breaking technique)

Once you have done this, position your round nose pliers back into the eye pin loop and bring the neck back to the perfect resting position, which in turn will straighten out your link beautifully.

For a different and effective look flatten the larger loop with a chasing hammer on a steel bench block.

Use these awesome links in anything from necklaces to earring connectors.
In the pictures below I used them as extension chains. Gorgeous!!!

Enjoy!!!
